Ian Green currently serves as the Senate President. As Senate President, Ian acts as the head of the Legislative Branch within Student Government. He chairs Senate meetings every Tuesday, oversees each Senate committee chairperson, works with Senators on projects and initiatives, and ensures that Senate is running smoothly and effectively.
Ian is a fourth-year double majoring in Business Management and Economics from Atlanta, Georgia. Although raised in Bulldog Territory, being a second-generation Gator made it that much easier to choose to attend the University of Florida.
He started his involvement in Senate after being elected a Sophomore Senator in Spring 2015. Since then, he has continued his service with his election as a Business Administration Senator in Spring 2016 and most recently, Spring 2017.
Within Senate, Ian has served as a member of the Allocations Committee, Budget & Appropriations Committee, and most recently as the Budget & Appropriations Chairman. As Budget & Appropriations Chairman, Ian worked with the Big Four entities and student organizations to create an Activity & Service Fee Budget for the fiscal year 2018-2018 that did not increase the per credit hour fee while still providing a plethora of the services and amenities students enjoy on a daily basis. Additionally, he was able to expand the opportunity for students to feel at home on campus as well as decrease the burden of finances for students so they can direct their focus on their academics.
Outside of Senate, Ian can be seen around campus giving prospective tours as a Florida Cicerone. He has served as an executive board member of the Black Student Union. Additionally, Ian has served on various university committees such as the Technology Fee Advisory Committee, Preeminence Task Force, Local Fee Committee, and currently he serves on the Capital Improvement Trust Fund Committee.
As Senate President, Ian hopes to be a resource for Senators and the initiatives they are passionate about accomplishing for the student body. He is committed to making the University of Florida more inclusive, connected, and focused than he found it through collaboration within the Legislative Branch and between the other branches of Student Government. In all, he wants to ensure that the University of Florida is Your University.
