Opportunities to be involved with SG’s Cabinet are now available. Applications for Assistant Director for all Cabinets as well as the Director for Career Development will be available until June 3rd at 5 p.m.
Cabinet exists in the Student Government structure as an organization that aims to create meaningful events tailored to the needs of the various student communities on campus. Events range from things such as educational forums to comedy shows to cultural showcases.
By enriching education in topics such as diversity, politics, cultural competence, global issues and more, Cabinet strives to truly help students become well-rounded Gators.
Currently our Cabinets consist of: Housing Affairs, Academic Affairs, Career Development, Disability Affairs, External Communications, Finance, Greek Affairs, Health Affairs, Internal Communications, International Student Services, Involvement and Service, International Development, LGBTQ Student Affairs, Multicultural Affairs, Orange and Blue, Special Events, Student Organization Outreach, Woman’s Affairs, Veterans Affairs, Interfaith and Innovation Academy.
On April 26, Marston Library was officially equipped with rechargeable battery packs for students to check out. For free, any student can use one of these EnergizerXP 18000A chargers for a maximum of two hours per rental.
The chargers are compatible with most cell phones, tablets and laptops and are capable of charging 3 devices at once.
This initiative is the result of a Senate bill authored by Allocations Committee Chairman Elliot Grasso. Grasso had been working very closely with the library chairs in order to make this project a reality for students.
“Students deserve to have sufficient power sources of their devices while studying in Marston Library. The rechargeable battery packs assist students in achieving academic success by enabling them to have access to fully charged devices while studying,” says Grasso.
Encourage your state legislators to bond CITF so renovations to the Reitz Union and Newell Hall study center can proceed on time.
On April 3, The George A. Smathers Library West began their rental service of Apple iPads to University of Florida students. This unveiling is the first test for the tablet initiative. Diane Bruxvoort, senior associate dean, wishes to bring this service to four more libraries across campus including Marston and the Health Science Center.
University Committee Applications are currently being accepted for the 2013-2014 school year. The University of Florida encourages its students to be involved and to participate in membership committees that advise the administration on important issues and events. This gives our school more insight on the students’ needs. Eligibility requirements for Student Committees are the same as those of elected or appointed positions in a student organization. The deadline is Friday, June 21, 2013.

VISIT FLORIDA has teamed up with UF on a campaign called the Florida Fan Game. The Florida Fan Game is a contest to determine which Florida school has Florida’s #1 fans. Six universities (FAMU, FSU, UCF, UF, UM, and USF) are competing for the title, and the competition runs through Dec. 3.

The University of Florida’s Student Government Honor Court staff positions and directorships, under director Shian Knuth, have been chosen for the 2012-2013 school year. The Honor Court was established as part of SG in order to promote fairness and honesty among the student body. The organization is tasked with hearing cases of academic dishonesty and maintaining high integrity and honesty.

The Hunger Games, an event benefitting hungry locals in the Gainesville area, took place on Wednesday Nov. 14 from 5:00p.m. to 6:30p.m.
The Florida-Georgia Game is only days away, and a rivalry as strong as the Florida – Georgia game can only be seen to be believed. Since 2009, the winner of this legendary game not only received bragging rights but a one of a kind trophy crafted from a 1,000 year old Cyprus tree known as the Okefenokee Oar.

Gators Going Green, the University of Florida’s student government representatives for sustainability and environmental issues around campus, has announced the students who have been selected for positions.
Fifty-eight talented, well-rounded freshmen have been chosen to serve on the Freshman Leadership Council. This is a Student Government agency comprised of freshmen who are interested in expanding their involvement and leadership at the University of Florida. The council will present these individuals with leadership skills, the opportunity to meet influential student leaders, and to have a voice in events of the student body.
