Open House Allows Students to Get Familiar With SG
The University of Florida Student Government is literally opening their doors for visitors for the Summer B open house on July 12.
The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the third floor of the Reitz Union and will include information about Student Government, tours of the offices and free food. Everyone is welcome at the event.
Students at the event can ask questions directly to key officeholders in student government. They can find out how they can become involved in Student Government in a very open, yet personal, setting.
Student Government executives will be present in order to engage students in conversation and explain what they do in their respective roles. There will also be applications available for select positions for students to take with them.
Members of the Student Senate will also be at the event. The senate is a 100-person organization, which passes legislation that affects UF students.
Cabinet representatives that serve underneath the Student Body Vice President will also be at the event to talk to students about the programming they do, which includes everything from the SG Housing Fair to barbecues before Gator athletic events.
Student government also consists of many agencies, which have missions that range from bringing popular speakers and entertainers to promoting sustainability and answer to the Student Body President. Heads of these organizations will be at the open house to talk to students.
“Student Government is trying to reach out to students,” said Sean Quinn, Action SG chairperson. “This event is an ideal way to bring our work to the student body.”
