Villamil discusses key SG points in State of the Campus

Posted on 4:37 PM in Hot Topics

Once a year, our SG student body president holds a special presentation highlighting past accomplishments, current projects, and visions for the future of the university. TJ Villamil outlined the three cornerstones that make up Student Government; Education, Evangelism, and Action. He set the tone of the room by explaining the accomplishments of SG as of late, ranging from lowering towing costs to the construction of the Veterans Center. Projects like SNAP, Gators Going Green, the 24/5 Library West policy among others are innovations brainstormed and forged by Student Government committees.

SG starts by asking the students directly what improvements they wish to see implemented on their campus. Action SG, the brainchild of Sean Quinn, was created for the sole purpose of bridging the gap between the voice of the students and Student Government. Along with the creation of Action SG, President Villamil wished to get the students involved in the day to day activities of SG and therefore has revamped its social media circles including Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest.

At the heart of the operation, SG wants to cultivate innovative and useful resources for the student body. Following suit of many top universities like Stanford and MIT, UF has decided to offer select courses and lectures online through Coursera and Open Access to shrink limited access to education.
