Joselyn Rivas is currently the Student Body Vice President at the University of Florida where she oversees the three divisions of the student government cabinet as well as the 21 different cabinets positions that fall under them. Before she was elected, Joselyn was the Diversity Division Chairwoman for the 2012-2013 academic year where she led six cabinet directors to promote a stronger and more active division. As the Diversity Division Chairwoman, Joselyn embraced the strong diversity on this campus by bringing new events and ensuring that her division was promoting multiculturalism all across campus. Her time as the Multicultural Affairs Cabinet Director during the 2011-2012 academic year was used to bridge the gap between different cultures around the University of Florida as well as to provide students with resources and dialogues on equity, social justice and diversity education.

In November of 2011, Joselyn was chosen as the 2012 Hispanic Heritage Month Treasurer, the largest student-run Hispanic-Latino celebration in the country. As treasurer, she was responsible for creating a budget for each of Hispanic Heritage Month’s eight main events, approve and/or edit SARs for the release of Student Government funds, and ensure that the organization remained in good standing with all Student Government regulations. Through this position, Joselyn was in charge of a budget of more than $63,000.

In 2011 Joselyn was also selected to be a part of the 2012 Preview Staff where she worked diligently over the summer of 2012 to transition over 8,000 new students to the University of Florida. This role is looked up to as one of the most important positions at the University of Florida as Preview Staffers are in charge of making sure that incoming students are welcomed to the Gator Nation with opened arms. Great care is taken in selecting the staff each year and throughout the summer Joselyn worked alongside 40 other Staffers to engage her students, advise students academically, and speak to worried family members about the college transitioning process.

Joselyn was elected on the first all-female executive ticket alongside the current Student Body President, Christina Bonarrigo. Joselyn hopes to use her AID initiative to assist the student body by providing Accountability, Inclusiveness and Development throughout her tenure as Vice President. Through this initiative, she created the first interfaith cabinet responsible for connecting Student Government with organizations of different faiths across campus to promote spiritual and student unity.

Joselyn was born in Caracas, Venezuela to Yaneth Hernandez and Carlos Rivas and soon moved to South Florida at the age of three.  As well as being a first-generation college student, she is a proud native Spanish speaker and believes in the empowerment of Hispanic-Latinos through active participation in her community at the University of Florida. In high school, Joselyn was captain of her cross country and track and field team and later graduated in 2010 having served as Student Body Vice President her junior and senior year. Joselyn is a Psychology and Finance dual major and intends on continuing her education in the field of law upon graduating from the University of Florida in 2014. She is a proud sister of Gamma Eta Sorority, Incorporated and a founding member of the Swamp Party in 2012.
