Ashton
Charles is a fourth year student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Political
Science with a concentration in International Relations and a combined Master’s
degree in Management. Ashton was born in
Lexington, Kentucky and moved to Tampa, Florida at the age of ten. Although she was raised in Kentucky, Ashton
is a proud member of the Gator Nation!
She is currently serving her second elected term
as a District A Senator and has actively participated in four consecutive
legislative sessions while in Student Senate.
During this time, Ashton has had the privilege of working as a member of
the Judiciary Committee, Sustainability Ad-Hoc Committee, and Replacement and
Agenda Transparency Committee.
Most
notably, Ashton has had the opportunity to serve as the Judiciary Committee
Chairman, which allowed her to acquire the experience and the knowledge
necessary to lead the University of Florida Student Senate. It is through this role that she has been able
to review legislation and work with Senators and students alike to develop a
deeper appreciation for the impact Senate can make on this campus and throughout
the community. Ashton has been able to
personally contribute legislation with the collaboration of other Senators
ranging from the Safety Awareness Resolution to the installation of hand
sanitizers in the Reitz Union.
Since
arriving at the University of Florida, Ashton has also been actively involved
in Gator Growl and Homecoming, ACCENT Speaker’s Bureau, J. Wayne Reitz Scholar
Program, Florida Alternative Breaks, University Athletic Association, and many
other clubs and organizations. Ashton is
also very passionate about her philanthropic work and has accumulated over
one-thousand hours of community service while attending the University of
Florida.
Ashton
is dedicated to benefiting the Student Body through the determined efforts of
the Student Senate. Looking to the
future, she will continue to strive for a Senate with the common goal of working
on behalf of all students at the University of Florida.
