Beginning
May 1, Larnell Vickers assumes a new leadership role at the University of
Florida as Student Body Vice President. He is very excited in this new role and
wants to truly leave a lasting impact on the University of Florida campus that
will impact future Gators. This upcoming year, Larnell is dedicated to cutting
edge, up-to-date and exciting programming this academic school 2009-2010.
Larnell
A. Vickers was born and raised in Miami,
FL by his father Warnell Vickers
and Robin Vickers. For high school, he attended the School for Advanced Studies
where he graduated with not only his high school diploma with Honors, but he
earned his Associate of Arts degree by the age of 17 in Spring 2006. Currently,
Larnell is a Gator Alumni of the University of Florida who graduated this past
Spring 2009, a year early at the age of 20. He graduated with his Bachelor’s
Degree in Political Science and Minor in Communication Studies and Leadership.
Now, he is pursuing his degree in the Master of Science in Management program
beginning Summer B 2009.
He began his campus involvement in
Student Government by joining Freshman Leadership Council and the Black Student
Union Leadership Cabinet. Since then, he has had the opportunity to serve in
various capacities: Student Government Cabinet Director, Preview Staff 2008,
Judicial Affairs Student Conduct Committee, Vice President of the Black Student
Union and more. He was also extensively involved in other areas of campus such
as New Student Programs First Year Florida Peer Leader, Florida Opportunity
Scholars Mentor, Resident Assistant and Florida Blue Key.
He
is passionate about giving back and volunteering his time to causes such as
Teach for America,
Florida Alternative Break, Camp Boogy Creek and different mentoring programs
around the community. In addition, he aspires to attend law school and pursue
the area of public interest law.
In
essence, Vickers was elected this past February 2009 and represents the
interests of more than 51,000 very bright students. He is dedicated to the
quote, “If your
actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you
are a leader.”
